Introduction Water is essential for human life, agriculture, industry, and ecosystem sustainability. However, in arid and semi-arid regions, limited rainfall, high evaporative demand, and irregular precipitation can make water resources management particularly challenging. Rainwater harvesting is one approach that can help improve the availability of water by collecting and storing rainfall for appropriate uses. Depending on local conditions, rainwater can be collected from rooftops, paved surfaces, or selected land areas and directed into storage tanks, reservoirs, or other collection systems. In some settings, captured runoff can also support groundwater recharge when suitable geological conditions and water-quality safeguards are in place. However, rainwater harvesting is not simply a matter of collecting as much water as possible. Its effectiveness depends on rainfall patterns, catchment characteristics, storage capacity, water demand, water quality, evaporation ...
